One day in January Juche 104 (2015), Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un dropped in at the injection workshop during his visit to the Wonsan Leather Shoes Factory in Kangwon Province.
He held a sole for men’s leather shoes coming out of the injection press and rubbed it on the worktable.
The accompanying officials exchanged wondering glances. With a smile on his face, the Supreme Leader said that the depth of sole patterns produced by plastic injection press looks too shallow and so the shoes made of such soles would be slippery. Then, he explained that the depth of sole patterns should vary according to seasons and uses.
After learning about the moulds of sole patterns and the supply of materials, he said that he attaches more importance to quality than quantity and stressed the need to decisively improve the quality of leather shoes.
