The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un inspected the State Academy of Sciences on January 14, Juche 103 (2014).
Earlier, he, in his historic New Year Address, said that science and technology are the engine for building a thriving country, and the happiness of the people and the future of the country depend on their development, and set forth the tasks for the scientific research sector to solve the problems arising in developing the country’s economy and improving the people’s standard of living, so as to go beyond the cutting edge.
And he visited the academy at the outset of that year in order to put the sci-tech sector in the vanguard of the advance for a great upsurge and encourage it to kindle the torch of innovation.
Making the rounds of the revolutionary museum, science exhibition hall and other places for hours to acquaint himself in detail with its scientific researches, he set forth important tasks which would serve as guidelines in raising the country’s scientific research onto a higher stage.
Noting that scientific research was just like blazing a trail, he stressed the need to prioritize science and technology and direct efforts to their development however difficult the country’s conditions were.
He added that in order to achieve success in scientific research, it is necessary not to spare investment in the sci-tech sector but to provide scientists and technicians with good conditions for their research.
He said to the officials of the academy that the Party had decided to build modern houses for its scientists this time and that he had come to solve the housing problem for them.
In fact, a few hours before his visit to the academy, he phoned its senior official to learn about housing conditions of scientists and made a calculation for the project.
He instructed that thousands of flats should be built in the science district, and named its street. And he solved all problems arising in the construction, ranging from its groundbreaking to the supply of building materials.
He expressed his great trust and expectation that all its scientists and officials would make a positive contribution to the building of a prosperous country with eye-opening scientific research successes, and continued his guidance trip to Lake Yonphung where a holiday camp for scientists would be built.
