Meaningful Name of the Party

On July 27 Juche 35(1946) when the Eighth Enlarged Executive Committee of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of North Korea was in session, President Kim Il Sung was asked by a participant in the meeting why the party to be founded was called the Workers` Party, while saying that it would represent the interests of the working people.

He answered that when it comes to labour, people usually think of the workers at factories or mines only, but it is not a correct idea as farmers also work and office workers do mental work, and that since the party to be founded by a merger of the two parties is an organization of the workers, farmers and progressive elements of the working intellectuals involved in work all together, he proposed calling it the Workers’ Party. After hearing him, all the participants unanimously agreed to his opinion, saying he was quite right.
