One day in May 2013 the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un visited the Majon Bathing Beach along the east coast.
Going round various places of the beach while acquainting himself in detail with the issues arising in its management and operation, he asked an official accompanying him how many people visited the beach in summer.
The official answered that many from Hamhung and even the capital city came there to enjoy sea bathing and that in particular, the citizens of Hamhung regarded it as a pleasure of their life to visit it more than three times a year.
On hearing the answer, Kim Jong Un said with a smile on his face: That is good. This tells how high our people’s demand for cultural and leisure activities is.
After a while, he, feasting his eyes on the panoramic view of the beautiful beach, said to the accompanying officials that renovating the Majon Bathing Beach into a world-class one is an important undertaking for providing a happier life to the people. Clean sea water, fresh air, sunshine and beautiful scenery have a good effect on human health and are very good for the prevention and treatment of diseases. Sprucing up the beach frequented by the people as required by the new century is a due responsibility devolving upon our Party which serves them.
Later, over 50 facilities including pavilions, changing rooms for shower and soft-drink stands were newly built and the accommodation blocks were renovated.
Now an increasing number of people visit the beach every year.
