In May 2013 the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un visited the then Turf Research Institute under the Biological Engineering Branch of the State Academy of Sciences soon after its inauguration.
On arriving at the institute, he said that he came there to have a good understanding of the biological characteristics of turfs and select ever-green species so as to spread it across the country.
After looking round the office buildings of the institute, he went to the greenhouse in which young turfs were growing in good health.
He informed the officials of the characteristic features of the ever-green species of turfs and gave detailed instructions on the orientation of study and measures to be taken with this regard, before heading for the exit of the greenhouse. Then he stopped and said:
Turf plays an important role in managing living environment in a cultured way and protecting land by beautifully covering the surface of land; planting turfs is also a patriotic undertaking.
