Built in the square with an area of 100 000 square metres on the shore of Lake Samji, it was unveiled in May Juche 68 (1979).

On the left side of the statue are a torch tower (50 metres high) and a monument to the revolutionary history and on the right side, a group sculpture titled “A Bugler of Advance”.
Against the background of Mt. Paektu and Lake Samji stand group sculptures depicting over 80 figures on such themes as “Motherland”, “Reverence”, “Advance”, “Camping” and “Water of Motherland”.
