Monument to the Victorious Battle in Pochonbo

It stands on Kwoegungjong Hill in the central part of Hyesan.

The monument is 38.7 metres high.

On June 4, Juche 26 (1937), President Kim Il Sung led the Korean People’s Revolutionary Army into the homeland and commanded the battle in Pochonbo to victory.

The monument was erected in June Juche 56 (1967) in order to commemorate the historic victory of the Pochonbo battle which heralded the dawn of Korea’s liberation.

In the centre of the monument stands the statue of President Kim Il Sung in military uniform, and behind him are group sculptures of the anti-Japanese revolutionary fighters on their march, holding the fluttering red flag.
