Mineral Waters and Hot Springs for the People

One day in June 1954, President Kim Il Sung called the minister of Public Health to his office room.

Touching upon the draft resolution of the Cabinet on improving the post-war public health work submitted by Ministry of Public Health, the President spoke that hot springs or mineral waters are very good in preventing and treating various kinds of diseases and that they had been generally used for a long time in preventing and treating diseases not only in our country but also other countries. He resumed that we should actively develop all the sources of hot springs and mineral waters and construct bath houses or drinking places or welfare service amenities around them for people to use on a broad scale.

And then giving a detailed explanation on the characteristic of medical treatment and its prospect of development to make a comprehensive use of all natural factors, the President taught that hot springs and mineral waters are the rich resources for people to treat diseases without taking medicines and that they are the priceless assets of improving people’s health and treating their diseases under our social system.

Since then the prospect put forward by the President concerning the overall and effective exploitation and use of mineral resources has been materialized. As a result, sanatoria and rest homes were constructed in all parts of the country where hot springs and mineral waters were found and the people came to lead happy lives while receiving medical care and recovering their health there.
