In the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea students from schools at all levels ranging from primary school to university are going to and from school carrying Sonamu-brand satchels provided by the state.
Here is a story associated with this.
One day in January Juche 105 (2016), the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un visited the Pyongyang Kim Jong Suk Textile Mill.
On arriving at the mill, he said that he would like to see the bag canvas production line established at the mill and the satchels made with the canvas.
After looking round the mill for a short while, he said that he, having decided to have satchels made for students, had given instructions to establish a bag canvas production line for producing satchels at the mill.
He dropped in at the product sample room to examine each satchel. He tried on one for students of senior middle school.
Saying that satchel was good and it would be convenient to carry a satchel, he pointed to the need to pad more sponge on the shoulder straps.
Then he said that he was very satisfied with the satchels made with the canvas produced by the mill and he was very pleased, adding that he felt so satisfied as he pictured schoolchildren going to and from school merrily, carrying them on their shoulders.
That day he gave meticulous instructions to build a base for producing satchels in every province and make them at the highest level so as to supply them to students across the country.
