The museum was founded on November 30, Juche36 (1947).
Centering on those excavated at the province, it displays historical remains and materials showing the history of Korea from the primitive community to the March 1 Popular Uprising in 1919, a nationwide resistance movement of the Korean people against the colonial rule of the Japanese imperialists.
It occupies a total area of 2 300 square meters.
