There were so serious and complex problems in the Korean youth movement soon after national liberation.
Communist youth league was formed by embracing young proletarians advocating communism, whereas nationalists formed their own bourgeois youth groups and other religious groups like Christian Youth Association came out, too.
These organizations made an attempt to attract young people respectively presenting the different slogans. Looking on this situation with folded arms would likely cause antagonism and division between the masses of young people. Then they could play into the hands of reactionaries and factionalists.
Therefore, President Kim Il Sung met an youth league official who was an anti-Japanese revolutionary fighter in October 1945 and taught him in detail about the ways to settle the complex situation and put forward the slogan “Patriotic Youths Unite Under the Democratic Banner!”
This slogan which could easily be agreed by and arouse the sympathy from all patriotic young people who loved the country was the slogan that could be put forward by the President only, as he regarded youth problem as an important issue in revolution and construction and took his great pains and labors for its solution.
