Pohyon Temple in Mt Myohyang

The Pohyon Temple in Mt Myohyang is a structure of high artistic value typifying the architecture of early 11th century Korea.

Built in 1042, it was rebuilt on several occasions afterwards. The present main buildings of it were reconstructed in the middle and later periods of the feudal Joson dynasty.

The temple building was turned into the Myohyangsan History Museum in Juche 36(1947) and an archive was set up to eternally preserve the 80 000 Blocks of the Complete Collection of Buddhist Scriptures, a relic of national treasure value.

President Kim Il Sung and Chairman Kim Jong Il visited the temple on several occasions and told relevant personnel to properly preserve and manage cultural remains and relics to hand them down to posterity.
