It is located southwest of Hamhung City. People call the mountain Tonghung as it is situated in the flourishing city in the eastern part of the country.
The statues of President Kim Il Sung and Chairman Kim Jong Il stand on Mt. Tonghung. Around them are the gorgeously painted Kuchon Pavilion, Sonhwa Hall and a 300-year-old Tonghungsan gingko tree which is under special protection and care as a living monument.
Azaleas and rhododendrons are in full bloom in spring and roses of Sharon and roses and the like in summer to add to the scenic attraction of the mountain.
On the top of the mountain is the Tonghungsan Park, where gives the visitors a bird’s-eye view of the town and the vast Hamhung plain.
