On 17 October, 1945, President Kim Il Sung called at the Propaganda Department of the Central Organizational Committee of the Party.
The President met some officials of the department and told them that the official party newspaper, the party organ, should quickly be published as the Party was founded. He underlined that the party newspaper plays a very important role in educating the party members and masses of the people correctly and mobilizing them to the revolutionary struggle. And then, he asked them about what name should be given to the party newspaper.
Officials proposed various names like “Advance”, “Torchlight”, “Vanguard” and “The Van” respectively.
The President complied with their proposals and then told them that they should take into account, first of all, what the task of the party was in order to give a name to the party newspaper.
Looking at their countenances full of expectation, the President said to them that it would be a good idea to give the name “Jongno” to the party newspaper.
It was really a brightest idea to give the name “Jongno” (Righteous Road) to the party newspaper in the sense that it teaches the correct lines to the masses of the people and guides them to the road.
