To Be of the Entirely New and Korean Style

In November 1947, President Kim Il Sung summoned an official and a few artists and gave them the task to make the national flag and emblem of the DPRK to be founded.

They felt anxious quietly as they were given the important task. .

The President read their mind and instructed that the national flag and emblem of our country should be of the entirely new and Korean style different from those of other countries and he taught them about ways to create them.

He said that the national flag should reflect the noble patriotic spirit of the Korean revolutionaries who fought for national liberation in arms and patriotic enthusiasm, invincible might and confidence in victory of revolution of the Korean people who wanted to sacrifice themselves to the struggle for prosperity of the country. He also highlighted that the national emblem should show that the Korean people who had taken over the brilliant revolutionary tradition of the anti-Japanese armed struggle were firmly united around the Party to strive for prosperity and progress of the country and express the unity and cohesion of the masses of the people based on worker-peasant alliance with working class as its core and the bright prospect aimed at developing the powerful and modern national industry and advanced agriculture.

Those who had no idea on how to make the national flag and emblem gained confidence and got to work for drafting.
