“Comrade Kim Il Sung, which target do you think we have to strike first in the fortified frontier region in order to break down with ease the general defensive system made by Japanese aggressive forces?”
It was the question asked by commander Tisjyakov of the 25th combined army corps of the Soviet Army to President Kim Il Sung regarding the joint operation to be undertaken with the Korean People’s Revolutionary Army on July 30, 1945.
At that time, the Japanese aggressive forces had concentrated their huge land, sea and air forces into the frontier region over the last ten years and affirmed it to be “an impregnable line of defense.”
The President judged that if our united troops began attacking the fortresses of frontier region, the enemy would probably expose their hidden major forces while helping their fortresses and then when our troops dealt preliminary strike for assaults on that occasion their general defensive system would get broken down. And he proposed an operation plan to organize local fighting around the fortresses before operation began and then selected major striking targets.
Tisjyakov reviewed on the operation map the major striking targets selected by the President and shouted for joy. He said: “We’ve now found the way to easily break through the strong defensive line of the enemy. Thank you, Comrade Kim Il Sung for making the breakthrough for operation toward Japan.”
