One day in May 2010, Chairman Kim Jong Il inspected the Hyesan Footwear Factory.
That day he inspected the shoes produced at this factory and stopped his walking in front of various kinds of winter shoes.
The Chairman held a winter shoe in his hand, watched it carefully and thought for a moment. However, he did not take his glance off for a long time from the shoes bearing the trademark of “long-necked and cotton-wadded shoes for forestry.”
When officials looked suspicious as they did not see the reason the Chairman said that everyone would like the long-necked shoes made at the factory whether he was a forestry worker or lived at a cold place and instructed them to call the shoes Ryanggangdo cotton-wadded boots as they were the specialty of Ryanggang Province the people favored.
Ryanggangdo cotton-wadded boots!
And praising the factory for having worked well for northern folks suffering from the cold, the Chairman said that he was most pleasant when he saw a factory work for people’s well-being.
Like this, even a name of shoes was marked with the loving care of the Chairman who had worried about northern folks and usually taken care of them.
