Fatherland Liberation War Martyrs Cemetery

The Fatherland Liberation War Martyrs Cemetery is situated at the foot of Mt Sokbak near the entrance to Ryonmot-dong in Pyongyang.

Opened to the public on July 25, Juche 102(2013) on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of victory in the Fatherland Liberation War, it covers an area of 27 hectares.

Enshrined here are the remains of over 480 Heroes of the DPRK who performed heroic exploits during the period of the Fatherland Liberation War (1950-1953), and 580 martyrs of the Korean People’s Army including the heroes of the postwar days and model soldiers.

The figures 1950 and 1953 embossed on the gatepost, meaning the period of the war, inspire the visitors with a solemn feeling.

The Memorial Tower for the Fallen Soldiers of the Korean People’s Army, the wreath-laying stand, the graves of the martyrs and other details emphasize the patriotic spirit of the martyrs who willingly dedicated their lives to their country.

Many people including the bereaved families of the martyrs and other Pyongyang citizens come here to honour the memory of the martyrs on meaningful days including the anniversary of victory in the Fatherland Liberation War.
