The Mausoleum of King Tangun, which was rebuilt gigantically in the era of the Workers` Party of Korea, shines more brilliantly as a holy place of the nation with the passage of the time.
President Kim Il Sung discovered that Tangun, who had been regarded as a mythical being, was the founding father of the nation and personally set the building site of the mausoleum and checked its final design in the last days of his great life.
Chairman Kim Jong Il regarded the renovation of the Mausoleum of King Tangun as an important work in implementing the behests of the President, and led it energetically.
Every year on October 3 (National Foundation Day) which is the birthday of Tangun, a memorial service in honour of the founder of the nation is held at this place.
