It stands in the centre of the Taesongsan Pleasure Ground.
It was used as the front gate to the Fort on Mt. Taesong.
It was built in 427 before Koguryo moved its capital to Pyongyang. The present one was restored to its original state in Juche 67 (1978).
On the occasions of May Day and other holidays it is used as the venue of international joint celebrations, concerts and sports games.
