It was several decades ago when President Kim Il Sung paid his visit to a foreign country.
He received a basketful of apricots and sweet cherries with their best wishes due to entertain a most honored guest according to manners of the country.
Saying that apricot had a good taste, he told the country’s officials that he wanted to take its sapling to his country.
They were so moved to hear him that they selected the best one of apricot saplings to present it as a gift to him and, a few years later, sent him some hundreds of saplings again.
The President took measures to originate a new variety that favors the climatic and soil conditions of our country and named it the Pyongyang white apricot tree.
