It is located in Sonjuk-dong, 1km northeast of central Kaesong.
It was a private Confucian school in Korea in the Middle Ages. It was a relatively large educational institution.
It attracts a great attention as it not only shows the architectural style of the medieval lecture halls but also is associated with the life of Jong Mong Ju, a loyal subject of Koryo (a government official and a famous Confucian at the closing days of the feudal dynasty). It consists of a lecture hall and East and West Quarters which were used as lodgings. The present buildings were rebuilt in 1573 after Jong Mong Ju was assassinated. It was designated as a world heritage site.
