It stands on the picturesque bank of the Pothong River.
As a building of the traditional Korean architecture with a total floor space of 60 000 m², it was opened in Juche 63 (1974).
It has over 500 rooms, large and small, including a 3 000-seat conference hall and other meeting rooms, signing halls, a banquet hall, etc. It is used as a venue of various events, including national and international meetings.
It often hosts various cultural events, including performances given by popular art troupes and art squads from industrial establishments, commemoration seminars, photo shows and so on.
As it is well furnished with many cultural and public service facilities, it is always crowded with people.
