Korean Ssirum is a sport game that two men measure themselves against each other in strength and skill.
It is played by depending on satba linking a waist band to a thigh band. Satba has also developed through some historical stages.
Most of Ssirum was played in rice-planting, weeding and harvesting seasons. Particularly when the folk holiday Harvest Moon Day came, many people used to gather around wrestling sites in scenic beauties and contended for victory from boys up to old people. A bull was given to the winner as a prize.
This tradition still goes on.
UNESCO registered the Korean Ssirum as a world’s intangible cultural heritage in 2018.
