The Sixth National Conference of War Veterans took place at the April 25 House of Culture in the capital city of Pyongyang on July 27 at the time when all the Korean people across the country were significantly celebrating the 67th anniversary of their victory in the great Fatherland Liberation War.
Kim Jong Un, Chairman of the Workers’ Party of Korea, Chairman of the DPRK State Affairs Commission and Supreme Commander of the armed forces of the DPRK, attended the conference.
The conference brought together war veterans and persons of wartime merits who had displayed unparalleled bravery and self-sacrificing spirit in the sacred war to defend the country with boundless loyalty to the leader.
Present there were chairmen of provincial Party committees, officials of ministries, national agencies and armed forces organs, teaching staff and students of revolutionary schools and youth and students in Pyongyang.
Amid the playing of welcome music, Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un came out to the platform of the conference together with war veterans.
All the participants burst into thunderous cheers in boundless reverence for and trust in the Supreme Leader symbolic of might, dignity and invincibility of Juche Korea.
The Supreme Leader warmly waved back to the war veterans, genuine patriots who had rendered immortal contributions to the country’s history of victory in the war.
The platform was taken by Choe Yong Rim, Yang Hyong Sop, Thae Jong Su, Ri Myong Su, Ri Yong Mu, O Kuk Ryol, Kim Si Hak and other war veterans who had served for a long time as senior officials of the Party, the State and the armed forces organs.
The platform was also taken by Choe Ryong Hae, member of the Presidium of the Political Bureau of the WPK Central Committee, first vice-chairman of the DPRK SAC and president of the Presidium of the Supreme People’s Assembly, and Pak Pong Ju, member of the Presidium of the Political Bureau of the WPK Central Committee, vice-chairman of the DPRK SAC and vice-chairman of the WPK Central Committee.
Also seen there were Ri Pyong Chol, Ri Il Hwan, Choe Hwi, Choe Pu Il, Ri Man Gon, O Su Yong, Jo Yong Won, Kim Yo Jong, Kim Yong Hwan, Pak Jong Nam, Ri Hi Yong, Kim Jong Ho, senior officials of the Party and the government, and other officials of working people’s organizations.
Pak Jong Chon, Kim Jong Gwan and other leading officials of the armed forces organs also took the platform.
Kim Jong Un delivered a significant congratulatory speech at the conference.
He extended warm congratulations to the war veterans who took part in the current conference, all the participants in the Fatherland Liberation War and the persons of wartime merits on the occasion of the 67th anniversary of the Korean people’s victory in the war.
He also offered noble respect to sung and unsung revolutionary martyrs who dedicated their precious lives to the sacred war for the country’s reunification and independence and the people’s freedom and happiness, and to the fallen fighters and war veterans of the Chinese People’s Volunteers who set a true example of militant friendship with the support to the Korean people in their revolutionary war at the cost of blood.
He spoke highly of the heroic life of the generation who won victory in the war by performing the undying feats and created the precious fighting spirit in the hard-fought Fatherland Liberation War true to the leadership of President Kim Il Sung, and expressed great confidence that the war veterans would reliably hand down to the rising generations the spirit of the 1950s as the bloodline of faith.
All the participants were greatly moved by his congratulatory speech full of high appreciation, respect, ennobling comradely love and a noble sense of revolutionary obligation for those who took part in the great Fatherland Liberation War.
They burst into thunderous cheers again when Kim Jong Un finished his speech.
They extended the highest honour and the warmest gratitude to Kim Jong Un who puts forward the war veterans as the valuable teachers who created the great history and the masters who laid a foundation for the independent, powerful country and shows benevolent care for them.
DPRK Hero Kim Sung Un, a lecturer at the Victorious Fatherland Liberation War Museum, made a speech addressed to the rising generations.
Saying that Kim Il Sung, the saviour of national liberation and the sagacious leader of new Korea, was precisely the country and the pillar of faith for the Korean people and the soldiers of the People’s Army during the war, he stressed that the war veterans brought about July 27 of victory by fighting with indomitable faith that they could never be deprived of the land, the grateful country liberated by Kim Il Sung and by burning their heart with a single mind to defeat the enemy even though they might die one hundred times.
Saying that the war veterans take pride in handing down to posterity the spirit of defending the country as part of legacy, he expressed his absolute conviction that the DPRK would surely win as it is led by Kim Jong Un, the iron-willed brilliant commander.
He stressed that the DPRK would surely emerge victorious, asking the rising generations to uphold in the highest esteem Kim Jong Un who devotes himself day and night for the sake of his people’s dignity and happiness and to believe, support and follow only the Party, whatever the storms, cherishing in mind as an article of their faith the spirit of defending the country and the revolution displayed in the 1950s.
Then, Jo Chun Hyok, student of Kim Il Sung University, and Ji Yong Min, an officer of the Korean People’s Army, made speeches on behalf of young people and the KPA service personnel.
They extended warm congratulations and militant salute to the war veterans who took part in the conference thanks to the benevolent care of the Party, on behalf of young people and service personnel across the country.
They said that the war veterans who honourably defended the dignity and sovereignty of the country from the imperialists’ brigandish aggression and handed down the indomitable spirit of defending the country as their precious inheritance are clearly kept in their mind as the model of true soldiers.
The earnest request of the war veterans touched the heartstrings of the rising generations, they said, stressing that they would become young heroes who dedicate their lives without hesitation for the sake of the Party, the revolution and the country by carrying forward the spirit and soul in the great era of having won victory in the war, and trust and follow only the Party invariably and single-mindedly, whatever the storms.
They made a firm resolve to devotedly defend the Party Central Committee headed by Kim Jong Un and take the lead in implementing the Party’s policies, bearing in mind that the history of winning victory in the war and the victory of socialism are guaranteed only by the spirit of devotedly defending the leader.
Kim Jong Un extended warm congratulations and greetings again to the war veterans across the country who had performed the immortal exploits that would shine for all eternity in the history of the country.
The conference fully demonstrated the unshakable faith and will of the Korean people and the KPA service personnel to add lustre to the proud history and tradition of victory which were created and steadily carried forward under the guidance of the great leaders Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il, from one generation to the next under the leadership of Kim Jong Un and accomplish the cause of building a powerful socialist nation.
