Amidst the growing desire of all Korean nationals for peace, prosperity and reunification of the Korean peninsula the north-south high-level talks took place on June 1 at the House of Peace in the south side area of Panmunjom to discuss how to implement the historic Panmunjom Declaration.
They were attended by a DPRK delegation headed by Ri Son Gwon, chairman of the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Country, and the south Korean delegation headed by unification minister Jo Myong Gyun.
Both sides affirmed the principled stand on implementing the historic Panmunjom Declaration, seriously consulted about the issues of taking practical measures and adopted a joint press release.
The joint press release said both sides agreed to open an inter-Korean joint liaison office in the Kaesong Industrial Park and explore ways to significantly commemorate the 18th anniversary of the June 15 Joint Declaration and discuss them by way of document exchange.
It fixed times and places of inter-Korean general-level, sports and Red Cross talks.
It also said that both sides agreed to discuss by means of document exchange the opening dates and places of the panel meeting to discuss the relinking of east and west coastal railways and roads and their modernization agreed in the October 4 Declaration and working talks on the DPRK art troupe’s south Korea performance tour, and hold inter-Korean high-level talks regularly to propel the implementation of the Panmunjom Declaration.
