It happened in October Juche 48(1959) when Mrs. Ri Po Ik, grandmother of President Kim Il Sung, passed away after her long illness.
Officials agreed to send a notice of her death to the newspapers and arrange a public funeral for the deceased.
It was due thanks the country and people had to offer her for her patriotic loyalty as she sacrificed all her descendants to revolution and went on her lifetime with firm principles and devoted labor.
However, the President did not accept their repeated suggestions.
Saying that his grandmother could not be treated out of the national law, the President told them that they could hold a big funeral for her as she was dead after hard life only, but should strictly draw the line between public and private affairs.
Then the President let them go to Mangyongdae and arrange a simple funeral.
