A zelkova stands at a roadside in Samgori of Kaesong City, serving passersby as a good resting place.
In its south and east are a chain of low mountains, where grow many pine and oak trees.
The zelkova, planted around 1590, is now in a very good condition.
It is 17.5 metres tall. Its root collar and chest are 7.5 metres and 6.7 metres round each and its crown, 26 metres across.
Three big branches spread out from the height of 2 metres, forming an umbrellalike crown.
The zelkova is a precious natural monument of the country as it is of academic significance and adds beauty to the surrounding scenery.
