Natural Monument—Spike Rosebay at Hadan-ri

The spike rosebay, an evergreen shrub which belongs to the Ericaceae, grows at Hadan-ri, Phihyon County, North Phyongan Province.

With an average height of 1.5-2 metres, its reserve covers one hectare.

It blooms with a racemous inflorescence for 45 days from the beginning of June. Its oval seedball ripens brown in October.

It is planted in a garden or park for ornament and its leaf is used as a medicinal material.

As a garden plant which is distributed in a very small area of the northwest intermediary zone of Korea, it is of academic significance and an ornamental value.
