Today is the founding anniversary of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon).
Founded in Tokyo, Japan on May 25, Juche 44 (1955), Chongryon was a new type of overseas Koreans organization, the first of its kind in the history of the movement of overseas compatriots in the world.
Its founding was a historic event which brought about a fundamental turn in the movement of Koreans in Japan and their life.
Under the wise guidance of the great leaders Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il, Chongryon has been strengthened and developed into a Juche-based overseas compatriots’ organization that represents the rights and interests of all Koreans in Japan and the pioneer of the overseas compatriots’ movement.
The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un, regarding Chongryon as part of the socialist country and the Koreans resident in Japan as his own brothers and sisters and family members of the motherland, has always taken warm care of their work and lives.
He indicated the road ahead of Chongryon by sending messages and letters of congratulation to it on major occasions and anniversaries, including the letter “Let us usher in a new golden age of the movement of Koreans in Japan true to the intention of the great Comrade Kim Jong Il” to Chongryon and the Koreans resident in Japan on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of Chongryon’s founding on May 25, Juche 104 (2015). Every year he sent large sums of money as the educational aid fund and stipends for the democratic national education of the children of Koreans in Japan and gave valuable instructions which would serve as guidelines for the development of the movement of Koreans in Japan.
Under his leadership, Chongryon officials and other compatriots in Japan are now making vigorous efforts to glorify forever the immortal exploits of the great leaders for the patriotic cause of Chongryon and the democratic national education and usher in a new heyday of the Japan-based Koreans’ movement.
In the face of difficult conditions in the alien land, they are bringing up the children of the Korean compatriots as true patriots through the well-knit national education network ranging from primary school to university who will carry on the lineage of patriotism and loyalty.
They are making positive efforts to safeguard and expand all the rights the Korean compatriots are entitled to as overseas citizens of a sovereign state, such as the rights to be educated, conduct business and travel freely to their motherland.
In spite of severe hardships threatening their lives and rights and interests, they are waging vigorous struggle to build the Korean community into a harmonious and affluent one brimming over with the Juche character and national identity.
