The spirit of self-reliance has always been a banner of struggle and driving force for a leap forward in the whole course of the Korean revolution.
This spirit was created in the period of the anti-Japanese revolutionary struggle between 1925 and 1945. The anti-Japanese guerrillas cherished the thoroughgoing standpoint that they were the masters of the Korean revolution and fought against the aggressors by arming themselves with the weapons they had captured from the enemy and they had manufactured at the arsenals they had built even under the difficult situation, in which they had neither state backing nor support of a regular army; they thus achieved the historic cause of their country’s liberation.
With this spirit of creating everything new out of nothing, the Korean people, after their liberation from the Japanese military occupation, accelerated the building of a new country by reconstructing the factories that had been demolished by the defeated Japanese imperialists and building cities and villages. And after the Fatherland Liberation War, they accomplished in 14 years the cause of socialist industrialization on the debris left by the war, and built a socialist state, independent, self-sufficient and self-reliant in national defence.
Although the unprecedented hardships and trials still persist, the Korean people, cherishing the steadfast faith in the validity of their cause and sure victory, are stepping up socialist construction under the uplifted banner of self-reliance.
The indomitable spiritual strength of the Korean people, who regard self-reliance and self-development as their life and mode of existence, is bringing about one miracle after another.
Many modern and Juche-oriented factories and enterprises have been built and the existing ones renovated, proving further consolidation of the foundations of the self-supporting national economy; and a new golden age of construction has witnessed erection of monumental structures and edifices in different parts of the country. This all constitutes socialist assets for promoting the people’s welfare.
Self-reliance, which the Korean people are holding fast to as the lifeline of their self-dependence and self-development, constitutes the fundamental guarantee for the DPRK to advance and leap forward for ever.
