Powerful Force for Socialist Rural Construction

The Union of Agricultural Workers of Korea (UAWK) is the successor to the Federation of Peasants Associations of North Korea that was founded in January 1946. As a reliable transmission belt and peripheral organization of the Workers’ Party of Korea, it has greatly inspired millions of agricultural workers to socialist rural construction and increased grain production.

Since Korea’s liberation (August 15, 1945), the peasants, as the masters of the land and the country, have devoted themselves to the new Korea-building, victorious Fatherland Liberation War (June 1950-July 1953), the postwar rehabilitation and socialist construction.

Agricultural workers, together with the working class, constitute the main force of society. As they are in direct charge of agricultural production, they are fully discharging their responsibilities and duties in the efforts to build a powerful socialist country.

Agricultural workers and UAWK members are enrolled in the study-while-you-work system in line with the requirements of the present era to prepare themselves to be intelligent workers possessed of agricultural science and technology and the masters of a cultured socialist countryside, thereby rendering active services to developing the economy and improving the people’s living standards with increased production of cereals.

In the course of this, a large number of ordinary farmers have become Heroes and Heroines.

The UAWK organizes various mass movements to inspire broad sections of agricultural workers and UAWK members to the drive for boosting agricultural production of the country with patriotism and consolidating the material and technical foundations of the countryside.

At present, the UAWK works as the organization representing Asia area of the Trade Unions International of Workers in Agriculture, Food, Commerce, Textiles and Allied Industries.

It is further strengthening friendly exchanges, cooperation and solidarity with the UIS and peasants’ organizations of other countries which are struggling for global peace and prosperity, genuine rights and interests of agricultural workers.
