Natural Monument—Five-coloured Granite

Five-coloured granite is located in Jungsan-ri, Tanchon City, South Hamgyong Province.

The geology of the area is formed with carbonate rock and granite.

Granite consists of feldspar, quartz, hornblende and biotite, and it is red, blue, yellow, black and white in colour.

The five colours found evenly in the rock look like confetti spread.

Five-coloured granite is used in making natural ornaments and special building-materials.

As a rare-to-be-found granite in the world, it is under preservation as a natural monument for its academic value in studying the characteristics of rocks.
