Greenhouses Prove Effective in Vegetable Farming

Officials in Mangyongdae District, Pyongyang, are producing vegetables in greenhouses and supplying them to the residents all the year round.

This year alone, they produced over 360 tons of vegetables in the greenhouses, which consist of 13 mud-walled vinyl-sheet buildings covering an area of one hectare. They scientifically conducted temperature and humidity control and nutrition management as suited to the growth conditions of vegetables according to their varieties.

They are increasing unit-area yields by applying soil-free cultivation methods while introducing food production cycle based on fish farming.

They are growing various fruit-bearing and leaf vegetables such as cucumber, tomato, pumpkin, bok choy, cabbage, lettuce, celery and leeks in the greenhouses.

They rank among the best producers of greenhouse vegetables across the country.
