Mother’s Mind

November 16 is Mother’s Day in our country. My mother’s 105th birthday also falls on the day this year.

I have two sons and a daughter and grandsons and daughters, and my mother Hwang Chang Bong has as many as 60 descendants.

Except great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, all of them are university graduates. Among them are officials of Party and power organs, educators and doctors. It was my mother’s lifelong desire.

I often wonder if there is a family like ours in the world.

My mother gave birth to five sons and daughters. But she devoted herself to the women’s union work till she was over 60 and brought them up to be nice persons.

Whenever they began to enter society, she asked them to work hard for the country which gave them free education and prominence. So, our brothers and sisters still work as a researcher, university teacher and manager, though all of them are over 70. I’m the eldest daughter, and I, too, engage in the research conducive to boosting agricultural production of the country.

Whenever I phone my mother to inquire after her health, she asks me to work for the country in good health, without any worry about her. This is the mind of my mother as well as mine, and all the mothers of this country, I think.

On the occasion of Mother’s Day, I extend warm congratulations to my mother along with the hearts of my children.
