Eternal General Secretary of the WPK

October 8, Juche 86 (1997) is the day of weighty importance in the history of the Workers’ Party of Korea.

That day, Chairman Kim Jong Il was elected the General Secretary of the WPK.

The years when he worked with the heavy responsibility of the WPK’s General Secretary was the most complicated and trying period for the Korean revolution.

He performed immortal exploits which would go down for ever in history by further enhancing the militant functions and role of the WPK and leading socialist construction to victory with his brilliant intelligence and outstanding leadership.

He developed the WPK into a party of the leader in which the unitary character and inheritance of the leader’s ideology and leadership are securely guaranteed and a motherly party which takes good care of the people’s destiny with a high sense of responsibility, and ensured that the unity between the Party and the people was further consolidated as unbreakable blood ties.

It is the most remarkable of his exploits that he established a system of State administration in which national defence is given priority and firmly safeguarded the dignity and sovereignty of the country and the gains of the revolution by building up the country’s defence impregnably.

He put forward unique lines and policies and gave energetic guidance to bring about fresh turn in all fields of socialist construction, thus laying lasting foundations for the building of a thriving country.

He devoted himself for the prosperity of the country and the happiness of the people throughout his life. He was on the most intense forced march, allowing himself not to take a moment’s rest.

He remains etched in the minds of the Korean people, who believed in him as in heaven, as the father of the nation and the General Secretary of the WPK.

The 4th Conference of the WPK held in April Juche 101 (2012) adopted a decision to hold him as the eternal General Secretary of the WPK and glorify his revolutionary career and immortal exploits for all ages, in reflection of the unanimous will and desire of all the Party members and other people.
