DPRK’s Education Policy

The Socialist Constitution of the DPRK, which was adopted on December 27, Juche 61 (1972) and has been amended and supplemented several times, reflects the country’s education policy in an intensive way.

The DPRK sets it as the object and mission of education to bring up the rising generations to be genuine patriots and pillars of socialist construction who will work for society and the collective and for the country and the people by embodying the principle of socialist pedagogy.

What is important in its education policy is that the country combines general education with technological education and the teaching with productive labour while giving top precedence to the education of the rising generations and the training of native cadres.

Another one is that it develops the universal 12-year compulsory education involving the one-year pre-school education at a high level in keeping with the developing trend of modern science and technology and as demanded by the reality of building a powerful socialist country.

It is also one of important requirements of its education policy to develop the regular education system and various forms of study-while-you-work systems and constantly improve the teaching contents and methods, conditions and environment.

The country brings up children of preschool age at nurseries and kindergartens at State and public expenses, gives free education to all learners and offers scholarship to students. And it provides all conditions for the working people to study by intensifying social education.

All members of society are enrolled in a certain educational system and study free of charge.

The education policy of the DPRK is guaranteed by education-related laws and effected to the letter by the people-oriented policies.

The First Session of the 14th Supreme People’s Assembly of the DPRK held on April 12, Juche 108 (2019) put it forward as one of important requirements of the Party’s policy to create a climate of giving top priority to education, raise the level of education and improve its quality, and enroll all the working people in the study-while-you-work system so as to make them intellectual workers under the slogan of making all them well-versed in science and technology.
